About Leslie Lockwood

Leslie Lockwood, Founder and Owner

My little brother used to stutter. I made fun of his speech, and promptly got in trouble with our mom! After that I realized stuttering is no joke. When I grew up, I became a speech pathologist because I wanted to help people who stutter. After 41 years in the field, working with people who stutter is still my passion.

I attended California State University in Fullerton, where I received my Master of Science degree and my California State License in Speech Pathology. I worked with Riverside Unified School district as a public school speech pathologist. During my early years as a speech pathologist, I moved to Keene, New Hampshire, where I completed my Clinical Fellowship Year with Ms. Traudl Thompson, CCC-SLP. At the end of that year, Traudl and I celebrated our success by going swimming with her dog in the lake near her house!

My years practicing in New England brought me a wide variety of experiences, which I am grateful for to this day. Those included working as a school speech pathologist, as well as an in-home therapist, where I taught parents how to work with their children.

I later returned to SoCal and Riverside Unified School District. For most of my years with RUSD, I was the speech pathologist assigned to Victoria Elementary School. Even though I have retired from RUSD, I am still a Victoria Eagle. As the saying goes, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!”

During my time working in the public schools, I have had the opportunity to help thousands of children and their families, always focusing on guiding my students to be better communicators. My purpose in retiring from the school district at this time is to open a private practice focusing on helping people who stutter. I want to be able to bring my skills as a speech therapist to the wider community here in Riverside. (Hence the name:SpeakRiverside . 🙂
